Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
About Us
We are a group of five church communities within the Diocese of Leicester who are seeking to be shaped by God. Worship and service are at the heart of what we are and what we do.
Our aim is to build a caring community where the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are
loved, worshipped and shared with everyone. We work closely with other churches in the area - St. Michael’s, Markfield is a full covenanted member of Churches Together in Markfield, which includes Markfield Methodist and Congregational Churches as well as the Roman Catholic community in the village; and the churches in Thornton, Bagworth and Stanton under Bardon enjoy good relations with Cross Hills Baptist Church, Bardon Park Chapel and Without Walls Christian Fellowship.
Team
The leadership team includes the Rector, the Reverend Andrew Smith;
Associate Priest and Pioneer Minister, the Reverend Pauline Ashby;
Associate Ministers (lay): Peter Maynard and Delia Geary;
Locally-authorised Ministers: Terry Layton, Dave Robinson and Adrian Whalley;
as well as the churchwardens of the three parishes.
History
Each of the villages and churches has its own history. However, the present grouping began in the late 1990's when the parish of Markfield was combined with the parish of Thornton, Bagworth and Stanton under Bardon. In 2003 St. Peter’s Copt Oak joined to form the present benefice under the then Rector, the Reverend Canon Geoffrey Willett.
